Whenever I heard “canned tuna,” all I could picture was a tuna salad sandwich, until I decided to make tuna patties. I’ve had salmon patties at my mother-in-law’s house, so I figured I could do something similar using tuna. I also wanted to add veggies so that they would have more flavor. I love having them with a soy-based dipping sauce and/or some spicy mayo. Go try them!
Ingredients
Makes 10 patties (2 inch diameter)
Tuna Patties
- 1/4 yellow onion
- 3-4 green onions (white & green part)
- 1/2 red pepper
- 1/2 yellow pepper
- 1/2 orange pepper
- 18 oz canned albacore tuna (I used 3 6oz cans-in water)
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/8 tsp chili pepper
- oil to fry
Dipping Sauce
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tsp rice vinegar
- 1 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 green onion, chopped (green part only)
Directions
Tuna Patties
1. In a food processor place the yellow and green onions along with the bell peppers. Pulse until they are chopped (not too many times because that would make a puree). Place onion and pepper mix in a bowl.
2. Break down the tuna chunks and add them to the bowl along with the eggs
3. Add breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, paprika, black pepper, and chili pepper and mix
4. Add the remaining ingredients. Break down the tuna chunks and mix until well blended.
Form the patties and fry them until slightly browned.
Dipping Sauce
1. Place all the ingredients in a small jar, shake/mix until the sugar dissolves.
